basis: However, the continuous enrichment of 18O, due to evaporation, during spring and summer results in heavier isotope values at the end of the warm seasons. Consequently, the isotopic oscillations can be interpreted as a reflection of changes in the intensity of the evaporation processes (Li and Ku,1997) that cancel out the opposite effect of the temperature increase (decreasing isotopic fractionation with increasing temperature; McCrea, 1950).
