Scaling between I´18O and temperature in West Antarctica can be
estimated in a number of ways, all yielding similar results. The local
interannual scaling between WAIS Divide I´18O and Byrd temperature is
0.5a€°/A°C; the ratio of 50-year trends also yields 0.5a€°/A°C
(1957-2006, Byrd temperature trend7 = 0.48A°C/decade; WAIS Divide I´18O
trend = 0.24a€°/decade). Regional interannual scaling between the
composite I´18O series in Figure 1 and the West-Antarctic average
temperature from Steig et al.4 is also 0.5a€°/A°C; the ratio of 50-year
trends is 0.6a€°/A°C (1957-2006, West Antarctic temperature trend =
